Brigadier Wasantha Liyanawaduge of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry assumed duties as the new Commandant of the Infantry Training Centre (ITC), Minneriya during a brief ceremony, preceded by performance of religious observances and military formalities on Monday (Mar 13) at the ITC premises.
The newly-appointed Commandant was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and saluted in a Guard Turnout, presented by troops as he entered the premises.
At his new office, he placed his signature in an official document, symbolizing the formal acceptance of the office at the auspicious minute amidst blessings of the Maha Sangha who chanted ‘Seth Pirith’ and blessed the new office.
Afterwards, the new Commandant planted a 'Naa' sapling in the compound and added memories to his inauguration of the office before he addressed his troops at the ITC auditorium.
Prior to this appointment, he served as the Brigadier General Staff of the 1 Corps HQ. He succeeds Brigadier Chandana Ranaweera, who has now been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer at Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapakse Theatre.
