Island-Wide ‘Ranaviru Haritha Arana’ Project Inaugurated at Manik Farm

Attaching a greater degree of attention once again to the ongoing national ‘Wanaropa’ campaign, on the direction of the Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army, thousands of Army personnel across the island in all seven Security Force Headquarters on Saturday (27) planted more than 6000 saplings in their respective locations as the final segment of the ‘Ranaviru Haritha Arana’ project, spearheaded by the Presidential Secretariat.

Led by Directorate of Agriculture and Livestock, headed by Brigadier Buwaneka Gunaratne, Director, Agriculture and Livestock, the formal main ceremony got off at the Army’s Manik Farm at Vavuniya this morning (27) where 150 rare underutilized fruit seedlings were planted under the aegis of the Commander of the Army who has already launched massive island-wide projects in this connection with the support of troops, media personnel and ordinary civilians.

At Manik Farm, Major General Wajira Palihakkara, Director General Finance Management and Colonel Commandant, Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps, together with Major General Hemantha Kulathunga, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - North Central, Brigadier Buwaneka Gunaratne, Director, Agriculture and Livestock, simultaneously planted Naminam, Lavulu, Gaduguda, Sapathilla, Weera, Mora, Kon, Mee, Dang, etc saplings inside the Manik Farm premises, showing their true commitment to the national cause.

In the meantime, troops of 58 Division, headed by Major General Sudath Perera, General Officer Commanding, 58 Division also joined the ongoing national ‘Wanaropa’ campaign on the same the day (27) morning and planted saplings around the Headquarters area.

Similarly, Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) organized a programme in line with the national drive for ‘Wanaropa’ and planted ‘Karadha’ (Pongamia Pinnata) and ‘Mee’ (Madhuca Longifolia) saplings in the Headquarters premises on the directions of the Commander SF-MLT, Major General Dushshantha Rajaguru on Saturday (27). Brigadier General Staff, SF-MLT, Brigadier W.D.K Costa, Officers and Other Rankers took part in the event.

Meanwhile, the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) launched its tree planting campaign inside the SFHQ-W premises on Sunday (28) to coincide with the outgoing governments’ ongoing national ‘Wanaropa’ campaign.

Intending to make the Headquarters premises full of greenery, troops planted 300 saplings of economic value like Ebony, Margosa, Indian Mahogany, Halmilla, Bell, Wood apple, Jack, etc were planted inside the SFHQ premises in parallel with the island-wide tree planting campaign of the Army.

Apart from the main event organized in the SFHQ-W premises, all Divisions, Brigades and Battalions actively engaged in planting over 6000 saplings covering their respective areas in order to make an eco-friendly environment. Sports News | Men Nike Footwear
