The annual Inter Regiment Practical Rifle Shooting Meet, organized by the Army Small Arms Association got underway at Diyatalawa 1000m firing range during March 9 - 16.
Its prize awarding ceremony took place on Monday (16), headed by Major General Prasad Samarasinghe, Chief of Staff as the Chief Guest for the occasion.
This year’s Practical Shooting Meet was comprised of 40 teams since attempts are being made to expand the field of rifle shooting to be on par with international standards.
Attaching importance to the event, male and female teams from 20 Regiments took part in this year’s tournament.
Team championship of the event was won by the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) and Gemunu Watch (GW) shooters secured championships in Novice Team and open Team Competitions.
Major General Sumedha Perera, Security Force Headquarters –Central, and many senior officers were also present in the event.
