Inter Regiment Boxing Meet Ends Qualifying Several for the South Asian Tournament


The Inter Regiment Boxing Tournament, held recently at Army Cantonment Indoor Stadium for four days (July 24,25,26,31).

81 boxers from fourteen regiments competed in the tournament and boxers, Private W.A.C.I Perera (below 49 kg) of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC), Lance Corporal S.R.P Ranaweera (below 52 kg) of Gajaba Regiment, Corporal W.R.P Weerakkody (below 56 kg) of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC), Lance Corporal S.S.W.M Karunarathne (below 60 kg) of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR), Private P.D.D Maduranga (below 64 kg) of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC), Corporal M.G Diwarathne (below 69 kg) of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC), Corporal K.G.A.P Jayasena (below 75 kg) of Gajaba Regiment (GR), Lance Corporal P.D Pradeep Indika (below 81 kg) of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC), Lance Corporal P.M.R Pushpa Kumara (below 91 kg) of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and Private A.R.B.E Thilakarathne (below 91 kg) of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) emerged winners in the finals, which will also select those participating in the 2013 South Asian tournament across the   Laten Championship tournament, to be held shortly.
 
Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, himself an international boxing judge attended the finals as the Chief Guest.

Private W.A.C.I Perera of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps became the Best Boxer (under 49 kg) and Lance Corporal K.M.C.E Bandara of Sri Lanka Army Military Police was adjudged the Best Loser.

In the women’s category, Private S.H Priyadarshani (3 SLAWC), Private T.M Weerasinghe (3 SLAWC) and Sergeant L.G Chandrika (3 SLAWC) carried away the championships.
