INFLUX OF ESCAPED CIVILIANS STANDS AT 77,793

MULLAITTIVU: THE number of displaced civilians who have reached government-controlled north and west of PUTHUMATTALAN and PULMODDAI areas from the ‘No Fire Zone’ seeking protection for their lives has by Wednesday (22) mid-noon gone up to 77,793. 

     Six hundred and twenty two (622) civilians reported to 53 Division troops, four thousand eight hundred and eighty (4880) reported to 55 Division troops, twenty nine thousand six hundred and ninety six (29696) showed up at 58 Division and one thousand five hundred and twenty (1520) reported to the Navy by late Tuesday (21) night. 

     Reports from those areas said that civilian influx continues to occur day and night.

     Meanwhile, troops of the 55 Division on 20th and 21st April have airlifted forty five women and forty eight men to ANURADHAPURA hospital for treatment of injuries caused by LTTE firing while fleeing.      

     The same Division has airlifted ninety-one more IDPs suffering from various illnesses/infections to ANURADHAPURA on Monday (20) and Tuesday (21). Two males and one woman have died in the LTTE firing on Tuesday (21) when civilians were on the flee. Another infant of about 10-12 month old succumbed to high fever on admission to the hospital. The 55 Division handed over the four dead bodies to the KILINOCHCHI hospital for onward actions.
