Ven Buddangala Ananda Nayake Thero, Incumbent, Ampara Buddangala temple passed away at the age of 78 years on Tuesday (28) at Colombo National Hospital.
Ven Ananda Thero, prior to entering monkhood, served the Sri Lanka Army for over 34 years as an infantryman of the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment after his enlistment to the Army on 26 March 1964. At the time of his retirement on 29 April 1998, he was a Major General of the Army. Major General A. G Weerasekara (Retd) during his tenure in the Army as an infantryman held many key appointments and performed a commendable service, particularly during the height of civil disturbances in 1980s.
He is the elder brother of Hon Minister Sarath Weerasekera
