India’s Army Chief of Staff, General Bipin Rawat and his delegation after their successful sojourn in Sri Lanka at the invitation of Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army, left Sri Lanka for India Friday (18) morning, leaving behind an array of unforgettable memories.
The delegation, headed by General Bipin Rawat comprised Mrs Madhulika Rawat, Spouse of India's Chief of Army Staff, Major General Prithi Singh, Brigadier Mukesh Aggarwal and Major Anshul Ahlawat arrived in Sri Lanka on Sunday (13) to a red carpet welcome and met HE the President, Prime Minister, Secretary Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy, Commander of the Air Force, Commander, Security Forces - East, Commandant, Sri Lanka Military Academy before visiting several places of interest. A banquet, hosted by the Army honoured him Monday (14) night with a toast raised by Commander of the Army, his host in Sri Lanka.
At the Colombo Bandaranaike International Airport, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army, together with Mrs Chandrika Senanayake, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) saw India’s Army Chief take leave of his host, Sri Lanka Army in keeping with military traditions.
General Rawat after a brief interaction with the Commander at the VIP lounge thanked the Army for all excellent arrangements. Commander of the Army immortalized his visit to Sri Lanka by gifting a photo album that contains visual images of his stay in Sri Lanka.
Major General Anura Sudasinghe, Senior Liaison Officer and several senior officers were present at the airport to see them off.
The visit, seen as a gesture for further promotion of existing relations and bonds of friendship that have been flourishing for generations in two Buddhism-dominated nations, took place in response to a formal invitation, extended to General Bipin Rawat by his Sri Lanka's counterpart.
