Hundreds of Troops Toil for Prevention of Dengue

Throwing their full weight behind the ongoing island-wide Dengue eradication project of the Department of Health, hundreds of troops of the 141, 142 and 144 Infantry Brigades under the 14 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ - West (SFHQ-West) on directions of the Commander of the Army during 13 - 15 May joined hands with health workers, Police personnel and other state employees and inspected vulnerable areas and home compounds in the Western Province.

The areas covered included Pitakotte, Mirihana, Udahamulla, Madiwela, Maharagama, Piliyandala, Werahera, Boralesgamuwa, Bambalapitiya, Wellawatta, Kiribathgoda, Weliveriya, Bellanwila, Kelaniya, Bemmulla, Ragama, Kaduwela, Malabe and several other areas of the Colombo and Gampha districts.

In an effort to speed up the said dengue prevention projects, troops serving under the Security Forces (West) have been contributing their manpower to the success of those projects as per the requests of the respective authorities.

Army troops belonging to the SFHQ-West providing their assistance for Dengue prevention projects in collaboration with respective Divisional Secretariats, MOH offices, medical staff, Police personnel and government agencies.

Accordingly, 6 Filed Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, 15 Drone Regiment Sri Lanka Artillery, 5 Field Engineers, 8 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, 21 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, 7 (V) Gajaba Regiment and 18 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 141 Infantry Brigade, 142 Infantry Brigade and the 144 Infantry Brigade of the 14 Infantry Division of the SFHQ-West as per directions of respective Brigade Commanders, the General Officer Commanding and the Commander, SF-West took part in this mammoth Dengue prevention project.

At the same time, the surrounding areas of the Colombo Royal College and Mahanama College - Colombo were cleaned up as per guidelines given by health authorities during the same three-day long project.
