Hundreds of Army Personnel Support Dengue Prevention

Intended to further boost the ongoing National Dengue Prevention campaign, troops serving under 14 and 61 Infantry Divisions of the Security Force HQ - West joined hands together with all government officials and volunteers involved, in the eradication project during 14 - 16 July.

The project covered 26 MOH office areas in Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Kegalle, Galle, Matara and Ratnapura where there has been a sharp rise in Dengue patients.

This campaign was organized by respective MOH offices in collaboration with tri service members in coordination with the National Dengue Control Unit of the Ministry of Health, and Public Health Inspectors (PHIs).

On the directions of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, over 250 Army personnel in respective areas participated in the community project and inspected mosquito-breeding domestic compounds and educated the public with PHIs.

They also conducted inspections on schools, public places while identifying potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes. The public were also alerted to measures for Dengue prevention and control among local communities.

Further, Army’s involvement in this community project was closely monitored by the General Officers Commanding of 14 and 61 Infantry Divisions, respective Brigade Commanders and Commanding Officers as the guidelines given by the Commander, Security Forces- West.
