Hundreds of Army Personnel Lead Dengue Prevention in Gampaha MOH Office Area

With the intention of speeding up the National Dengue Prevention Campaign being implemented island-wide, troops serving under the 141 Infantry Brigade of the 14 Division under the Security Force HQ-West contributed to a Dengue prevention campaign from 27 April to 02 May 2023 covering Attanagalla, Biyagama, Kelaniya, Wattala, Ragama, Ja-Ela and Mahara MOH office areas where a rise in Dengue patients has been reported.

This campaign was organized by the Gampaha Divisional Secretariat offices and MOH offices in collaboration with the Security Force Headquarters - West. About 120 Army personnel from 6 Field Regiment of Sri Lanka Artillery, 8 Battalion Sri Lanka Light Infantry and Sector 15 belonging to 141 Infantry Brigade contributed to this programme, along with Police personnel, several medical officers and respective Public Health Inspectors (PHI).

Meanwhile, Wathupitiwala, Nittambuwa (West), Nittambuwa (North), Ranpokunagama, Urapola and Thihariya areas were also inspected in line with this campaign, in addition to the aforesaid MOH areas. Further, through this 6-day programme, all participants inspected more than 20,183 places, including residences, public places and workplaces while issuing red notices to many for breeding of mosquitoes.

At the same time, both state officials and Army troops also educated the public on ‘How Dengue can be effectively eliminated by maintaining a good hygienic atmosphere at workplaces and residences’.

The District Secretariat Office in Gampaha coordinated the participation of Army personnel under the supervision of the Security Force Headquarters - West.
