House Recipient in Thunnalai Narrates Woes & Thanks the Army for Commendable Role

During the warming ceremony of the 767th Army-built new house at Thunnalai, Jaffna, Mrs Shanmuganam Chandarakala a resident woman in the village on behalf of the recipient, Mrs Radiswaran Raseswari, a mother of four children and her physically-handicapped husband commented on the Army project heaping praise. Here is the full text of her speech:

"It was the Sri Lanka Army after restoration of peace in the country upon completion of the war reached the hearts and minds of the Tamil masses in the North as the closest relatives. Thunnalai is a poor hamlet where suffering families of low-income groups reside, and no one has ever taken any interest to look into the grievances of these poor people in this area until the Army offered their assistance. The support and continued service being extended by the Army to these affected poor people in this poverty-stricken Thunnalai area is therefore commendable.

The Sri Lanka Army by screening the most deserving and badly-affected sections of our society constructs new houses for the homeless providing a source of strength to needy people in the North. By now, the Army has built a large number of houses for those most deserving sections in the North, which is truly commendable.

The recipient of this Army-built home with her physically-handicapped husband and helpless children of the family who were without a proper and permanent home of their own today moved into a fully-equipped home. Army Officers, having seen their living condition in that previous shelter, took steps to construct this new house today for the family, for which I extend my deep respect and gratitude to the Army.

Likewise, the Army in this area provides us security and distributes necessary dry rations, school equipment, bicycles, etc for which we owe a word of gratitude. I wind up my speech by thanking all of you for attending this occasion, " she concluded.
