Holiday Bungalow Dedicated to GR Veterans Inaugurated at Home of Gajaba

The newly-constructed Holiday Home for Veterans of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) at the GR Regimental Headquarters at Saliyapura was warmed and inaugurated by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment of Gajaba Regiment and Sri Lanka National Guard on Sunday (28) at the invitation of the Chairman, Gajaba Regiment Veterans’ Association, Lieutenant Colonel Deepal Subasinghe (Retd).

The need for a proper Holiday Bungalow for Veterans remained a long-felt need for rest and recreation of retired Keterians in the GR Regimental Centre Complex.

This inauguration ceremony coincided with the Annual General Meeting of the Gajaba Veterans’ Association. Following the auspicious opening of the new Holiday Bungalow, the Army Chief attended the 19th Annual General Meeting of the Gajaba Veterans’ Association as the Chief Guest where he did not forget to address all retired veterans who were associated with the day’s event.

This welfare project consists of three rooms with all modern furniture and facilities and facilitates as a meeting place for retired Keterians in their old fort.

Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni, Major General Chandana Wickramasinghe, Adjutant General, Major General Sanjeewa Fernando, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division, Brigadier Wishwajith Vidyananda, Centre Commandant, GR and Senior Officers, Officers and staff of the Regimental Centre were present at the ceremony.

On arrival at the location, the Chief Guest, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage was warmly welcomed by the Chairman of the Gajaba Veterans’ Association, Lieutenant Colonel Deepal Subasinghe (Retd) and other veterans. Afterwards, the Army Chief unveiled a symbolic plaque and vested the Holiday Bungalow in the family of retired Keterians.

Major General Jagath Dias (Retd) and Major General Nisshanka Ranawana (Retd) were among the veterans present at the occasion.
