Highlanders Bid Farewell to Their Outgoing Colonel of the Regiment

A farewell ceremony for Major General Sena Waduge, 46th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Commander, Army Training Command and 19th Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch was held at the GW Regiment Centre on 05 October 2021, on his retirement after completion over 35 years of service in the Sri Lanka Army.

According to the military traditions and customs, the Centre Commandant of the Gemunu Watch Brigadier J.M.R.N.K Jayamanna welcomed the Chief Guest and invited him to review the Guard Turnout at the main entrance and accompanied him to receive the salute in the dignified military Guard of Honour. Then, the ceremonial commemoration for fallen war heroes occurred at the monument.

All Officers and Other Ranks of the Regiment Centre extended their heartfelt gratitude to distinguished outgoing Highlander for his commitment and dedication to the Gemunu Watch and wished him a healthy, wealthy, peaceful and prosperous retired life.

Major General Sena Waduge was born on 06 October 1966 and he is a proud product of the Thissamaharama Maha Vidyalaya, Hambantota. He joined the Sri Lanka Army on 02 June 1986 with KDA Intake - 4 and commissioned on 1988, subsequently he posted to the 5th Battalion the Gemunu Watch.

Major General Sena Waduge has followed number of Local and foreign courses in his military career, such as: Young Officers’ Course - Pakistan, Junior Command Course - India, Unit Admin Course, Command and Staff Course - Army Command & Staff College Sri Lanka, Parachute Course - India, Defence Attache Orientation Course, Senior Command Course - India, Advanced Security Cooperation Programme - Hawai, Master of Military Science Strategic Studies Course - China, Human Resources Management Degree - University of Colombo and General Course in Diplomacy and International Relation.

Major General Sena Waduge had immensely contributed to the Army with his proficiency and he had proved himself as an icon of excellence by holding many Command, Staff and Instructional appointments in his military career. Some of those Adjutant - Kotalawala Defence Academy, Senior Instructor - Sri Lanka Military Academy Diyatalawa, Commanding Officer - 7th battalion the Gemunu Watch, Brigade Commander - 513, 684, 232 and 234 infantry Brigades, Commandant - Combat Training School Ampara, Assistant Military Secretary - Military Secretary Branch Army Headquarters, Brigadier General Staff - Security Forces Headquarters (Wanni), General Officer Commanding - 52 Infantry Division, Adjutant General - Army Headquarters ,Colonel of the Regiment of Mechanized Infantry Regiment and finally he performed duties as the 19th Colonel of the Regiment of the prestigious Gemunu Watch He is also held the appointments of the Commander of the Sri Lanka Army Training Command and 46th Commandant of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force.

Major General Sena Waduge possesses a clean and an unblemished record of conduct in the Army. He actively took part in operations against LTTE and is adorned with gallantry and service decorations such as Rana Wickrama Padakkama awarded for individual acts of bravery and heroism in battles, performed on own initiative and the Rana Sura Padakkama awarded for acts of distinguished bravery.
