The visit that inspired 40 injured War Heroes under treatment at this wellness resort, equipped with all therapeutic equipment, saw General Shavendra Silva and Mrs Sujeewa Nelson, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU) visiting them at their wards in order to interact with them on this memorable day.

Both General Shavendra Silva and Mrs Sujeewa Nelson shared a few thoughts and distributed gift parcels, inclusive of bed-linen, toiletries and other essentials among all of them and spoke of their brave achievements. Afterwards, the day’s Chief Guest and the President, ASVU sat together with those War Heroes to share a few thoughts and a cup of tea adding memories to the day, in which those War Heroes sustained injuries during the humanitarian operations.

“I myself being a soldier who has sustained injuries in the war would do everything possible to take care of the remainder of your valuable life. You had to be away from home for treatment in a wellness resort like this even today because of your duty commitment, dedication and discipline as well as your skills, shown in the battlefield on a day like today. On behalf of all past Commanders, heroic War Heroes and All Ranks, let me convey my best wishes to you for speedy recovery. Although all wounded soldiers are not like you, they are also still living with scars of wounds, like myself,” General Shavendra Silva told the residential War Heroes in a brief speech to them.

“Contrary to some allegations, being spread, it was the Army who in less than 24 hours after violent incidents sparked, went to the locations and brought the situation under control without letting it to escalate. We are always prepared to challenge the challenges when the security of the people and the country is at stake” the Commander said.

“We will do everything our capacity to take care of you and treasure what you have done for the country. We, in the Army have always come to the fore in defence of our people and the country all the time. It was so in the past and it will continue to be so as we have witnessed in the most recent past too. Likewise, heroic tri-services and the Police dedicatedly worked to protect the people from COVID-19 epidemic which was unknown to everyone and we succeeded in controlling it. In the most recent past, the violence that erupted within 24 hours with a spate of violent attacks was brought under control as the protector of the Nation in the country, assisted by the Police. The Army will continue to play the same role in future for the best interests of the country and its people alike. I wish you speedy recovery and best wishes for your well-being”, General Shavendra Silva told the War Heroes at the Mihindu Seth Medura.
