Heroic Supreme Sacrifices at Kokavil Battle Remembered Placing Floral Wreaths

The 31st Commemoration of Kokavil battle War Heroes and the supreme sacrifice of late Captain Saliya Upul Aladeniya of 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment with 58 more heroic soldiers and civil staff in defence of the Kokavil Transmission Tower that linked communication between North and South complex in the past was held on Sunday (11 July 2021) at the KokavilFallen War Hero Monument premises.

The Officer Commanding for the Kokavil Transmission complex camp, Captain S.U Aladeniya of 3 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (3 SLSR) who was posthumously decorated with the highest gallantry medal, Parama Weera Vibhushanaya (PWV) perished in the terrorist attack with others when the area was overrun by LTTE terrorists way back in 1990. Late Captain Aladeniya with all available resources offered a stiff resistance to the enemy with other fellow-soldiers until his last breath on 11 July 1990.The Battle of Kokavil was fought from 27 June to 11 July 1990 in Kokavil after LTTE terrorists put the Army under siege for 14 days.

The commemoration ceremony was organized by the 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment under the close supervision of the Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ranga Muhandiram on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 57 Division, Major General Priyantha Jayawardane and Commander, 573 Brigade Brigadier Manoj Madurapperuma.

The Commander Security forces Wanni and Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Major General Hemantha Bandara graced the occasion as the Chief Guest at the Memorial ceremony and set light to the eternal lamp near the statue and revered the heroic memory by placing a floral wreath at the foot.

General Officer Commanding 66 Division Major General Ajith Dissanayaka, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division Major General Priyantha Jayawardane, Brigade Commanders and other Senior Officers paid their respect to the monument by placing floral wreaths.
