Half a Thousand Poor Students in Batticaloa Given Army Incentives for Studies

A record 501 students of low-income group families learning at Karadiyanaru Hindu College and three more schools in Batticaloa district through Army initiatives were awarded educational aids and accessories on Wednesday (9), thanks to the sponsorship provided by Mrs Manabandanee Senadeera of the Rotary Club of Colombo and the family of Mr Indratissa.

The project, implemented as one more community-oriented welfare measure of the Security Force HQ-East was launched by Major General Nalin Koswatte, General Officer Commanding of the 23 Division with the support of Brigadier Dilupa Bandara, 231 Brigade Commander and his troops of the 4 Gemunu Watch got underway at Karadiyanaru Hindu College after inviting all students to one place.

Each relief pack consisted of a school bag, accessories such as books, pens, pencils, pencil cases, mathematical instruments, and gift vouchers for a selected group of low income families. The project received the blessings of Major General Lal Chandrasiri, Commander, Security Force -East to be in line with the ongoing 'Way Forward Strategy of the Army 2020-2025', conceptualized by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defense Staff and Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

Major General Nalin Koswatte, General Officer Commanding of the 23 Division, Civil Affairs Officer of the 23 Division, Commanding Officer of the 4 Gemunu Watch, Officers and Other Ranks, Principals and teachers of all four schools were present during the distribution ceremony.
