Major General Priyantha Perera, Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Army assumed office as the 20th Colonel of the Gemunu Watch Regiment of on 23 October 2021 during a simple ceremony amid religious observances at his office of the Gemunu Watch (GW) Regimental Centre in Kuruwita.
The programme commenced in accordance with military traditions after the visiting Major General Priyantha Perera was welcomed by the Centre Commandant of the Gemunu Watch. A Guard Turnout at the main entrance greeted him before a Guard of Honour salute presented by Gemunu Watch troops at the parade square honoured him.
He was accompanied to the parade ground by the Parade Commander, together with Centre Commandant in accordance with military traditions. After floral tributes were paid at the monument of fallen GW War Heroes, he signed a formal document and signified the acceptance of new responsibilities.
An all rank tea organized at the Swimming Pool premises culminated the day's proceedings. Thereafter, Major General Priyantha Perera addressed all ranks and joined the GW council meeting before he spoke to all Commanding Officers.
