GW Regimental Centre Gifts 3 Storied Accommodation Facility to Their Troops

Gemunu Watch (GW) Non Commissioned Officers serving the GW Regimental Headquarters at Kuruwita, Ratnapura had the privilege of moving into a state-of-the-art new accommodation facility, comprised of 3 stories, beginning from Wednesday (4).

The long-felt requirement of GW Other Ranks at the invitation of the Colonel of the Regiment was warmed and inaugurated by the day’s Chief Guest, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army who was there to receive the salute of the Mali-bound troops. Lighting of the traditional oil lamp and religious observances set the stage ready for its inauguration of the new facility soon after the day’s Chief Guest uncovered a plaque to the same effect.

The new storied building, erected jointly by GW and Corps of Engineer Services (CES) troops was completed with GW Regimental funds on the guidelines given by Major General Lal Chandrasiri, Colonel of the Regiment, GW. The day’s Chief Guest, flanked by several Senior Officers upon initial opening afterwards had a close look at the entire building and saw for himself the facilities available for Other Ranks in this storied building.

The day’s proceedings culminated with a common lunch where the Chief Guest was awarded an appreciative memento for his presence at the day’s series of ceremonies. General Shavendra Silva penned a few thoughts in the visitors’ book at the officers’ mess before his departure. Likewise, the Army Chief too presented a memento to the Colonel of the Regiment, GW prior to his departure.

The Chief of Staff, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Commander, Army Logistics Command, Senior Officers and Officers participated in the day’s arrangements.
