GW Celebrates 36th Anniversary with Military Formalities

The Gemunu Watch (GW) recently celebrated its 36th anniversary amidst religious and military formalities under the guidance of Major General S.W.B. Welagedara RSP VSV USP ndc, the Colonel of the Regiment, GW, and the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 51 Infantry Division on 19 March 2024 at Regimental Headquarters in Kuruwita.

Coinciding the anniversary, multiple religious programs were held at Sabaragamuwa Maha Saman Dewalaya, Hindu temple, Jumma Mosque, and Catholic Church in Rathnapura on 16 and 17 March 2024. Moreover, an Elle tournament was also held on 18 March 2024.

On the anniversary day, the Colonel of the Regiment was warmly welcomed by staff officers and saluted in a formal Guard Turnout before he was saluted in a ceremonial Guard of Honour. Later, the Colonel of the Regiment addressed the troops. Afterwards, he participated in the All-Ranks tea where he had the opportunity to interact with the Officers and Soldiers of the Regiment. Giving pride of place to the memory of all fallen GW War Heroes, the Colonel of the Regiment laid a floral wreath at the GW War Heroes’ monument and paid tribute in a solemn ceremony. The overnight Pirith chanting ceremony was held at the Regimental Center's Paradise Hall on the same day.

Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present for the formalities.
