Gunners Mark Their 134th Anniversary at Regimental Headquarters

The 134th anniversary commemoration of the Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) got underway at the SLA Regimental Headquarters at Panagoda during a series of elaborate programmes.

The arrangements began giving priority to the memory of fallen SLA War Heroes where the Colonel Commandant of the SLA Regiment, Major General Sanjaya Wanasinghe who is also the Commander, Security Forces – Mullaittivu as the Chief Guest laid a floral wreath at the SLA monument and saluted their sacrifices on Tuesday (19), together with several Senior SLA members. A gun salute honoured the memory of fallen SLA War Heroes at the same occasion.

The evening on Tuesday (19) saw the commencement of an all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting ceremony with the participation of several monks. The overnight chanting invoked blessings on the SLA anniversary and a ‘Heel Daana’ (breakfast) was offered to the members of the Maha Sangha, the following day morning (20).

On the anniversary day (20), a Guard Turnout greeted the SLA Colonel Commandant on arrival at the Regimental HQ before the SLA Centre Commandant welcomed the day’s Chief Guest. Towards the noon, an All Rank lunch took place bringing anniversary commemorations to end.

SLA Regimental council members, Senior Officers, Officers and a representative gathering of Other Ranks took part in those anniversary events.
