Gunners Bid Farewell to Outgoing SLA Colonel Commandant & Chief of Staff

The Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) Regiment bade farewell to the Colonel Commandant, Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu who was also the Chief of Staff of the Army on Thursday (12 Oct) who retired after serving more than 35 years in the Sri Lanka Army in a formal ceremony at the SLA Regimental Headquarters at Panagoda.

The Senior Officer was warmly welcomed by the Centre Commandant of the SLA upon arrival before he was greeted in a Guard Turnout at the entrance. Subsequently, he paid a floral tribute to the memory of fallen SLA war heroes at the Regimental Monument.

Afterwards, he was invited to receive the salute of a colourful Guard of Honour in the parade square before posing for a few group photographs with the SLA troops leaving memories of the day. Later, he participated in a tea at the Warrant Officers’ and Sergeants' Mess where he received mementoes in appreciation of his services rendered to the organization.

Culminating the day’s agenda, he took part in a customary All-Rank lunch at the Other Ranks' Mess where he took some time off to interact with the troops and civil staff serving in the compound.

Towards the end of the lunch, the outgoing Senior Officer spoke a few words to the troops and commended their support rendered during his tenure. Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks also were present during the series of events.
