Guardians Mark their 26th Anniversary with Elaborate Events

Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) marked its 26th anniversary Thursday (1) at the Maligapitiya Grounds, Kurunegala.

Colonel of the Regiment, SLNG, Major General A. P. de Z Wickramaratne graced the event as the Chief Guest.

Military formalities began with a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour, comprised of 27 officers and 627 other ranks representing all 25 Battalions of the SLNG.

An all rank lunch, attended by service personnel from all SLNG battalions was also held as one more feature of the anniversary programme.

Colonel of the Regiment afterwards addressed all ranks who have assembled there.

In the same afternoon, floral tributes were offered in respectful remembrance of the fallen War Heroes at the War Heroes’ Memorial Monument in the SLNG camp premises.

The wreath-laying ceremony got underway amidst religious observances of all faiths.

Earlier during October 28-29, a special overnight 'Pirith' chanting ceremony at the premises culminated with offer of alms to the members of the Maha Sangha, the following day (29). Major General A.P. de Z Wickramaratne, Colonel of the Regiment, SLNG, attended the occasion as the Chief Guest.

The day’s event was attended by the Centre Commandant, Regimental Staff Officers, Commanding Officers, senior officers, parents of fallen warriors and family members of serving SLNG personnel.
