The grand finale to select the best ‘Compering Star – 2018’ among Army personnel among troops serving the Jaffna peninsula under the Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J) got underway on Sunday (16) after several selection rounds were held among Jaffna troops.
The competition was aimed at picking up the most talented compering soldiers of both genders, according to a concept initiated by the Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna (SF–J), Major General Darshana Hettiarrachchi.
6 finalists were selected out of 300 soldiers who were trained and guided by renowned professional comperes, Mrs. Thilini Athukorala and Mrs Chithra Kumari Paththapperuma. The finalists were judged by a four-member panel which comprised of Brigadier Ravindra Dias, Mrs. Nilmini Sigera, Mr. Chaminda Gunarathne and Mr. Dhananjaya Nanayakkara who were also renowned professionals in the field of compering and announcing.
In the finals, Sergeant P. E. S Harishchandra of 1 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) crowned as the 'Compering Star - 2018' and Lance Corporal B. H. Y Peiris of 4 Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) was awarded the First Runner up slot while Corporal U. R. D. D. S. D Wickramasinghe of 7 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) secured the Second Runner-up slot.
Meanwhile, Lance Corporal N. W. V Darshana of 5 Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC), Corporal R. Jayathunga of 15 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) and Corporal M. L. G. D. T Warallagama of 7 Gajaba Regiment (GR) secured the 4th, 5th and 6th positions respectively.
