Graduates at Asia-Pacific Center for Security Studies Meet Together

A gathering of former graduates of the Asia Pacific Center for Security Studies (APCSS) in Hawaii met one another at the SLAF Base, Ratmalana on Monday (27 Feb) where Her Excellency Julie Chung, US Ambassador to Sri Lanka graced the event as the Chief Guest.

During the formal get-together, all alumni discussed future prospects of the APCSS and its objectives of ‘Educating, Connecting and Empowering’ as an essential partner in strengthening regional security and fostering strategic dimensions. It has been playing a significant role in bringing people from diverse backgrounds to forge a unique perspective with synergy and vision, enabling leaders of the present and future to face the ever-evolving threats and challenges.

During the last 27 years, the APCSS has facilitated a number of workshops, seminars, and other educational programmes for civil and military leaders from Sri Lanka and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region. These programmes have helped to build trust, foster understanding, and enhance regional security, including the Executive Course, which aims to develop the skills and knowledge of senior leaders to better address complex security challenges in the Asia-Pacific region.

The event was attended by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, the Commander of the Air Force, Air Marshal Sudarshana Pathirana, Director APCSS Rear Admiral Peter Gumataotao (Rtd), Representative from APCSS, Professor Shyam Tekwani, Lt Col Anthony Nelson and other officials of the US Embassy, Members of the alumni both in the services and other public institutions.

Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army is also a graduate of the Asia-Pacific Centre for Security Studies in Hawaii.
