GR Regimental HQ Bids Farewell to Retiring Senior Officer

The Gajaba Regiment (GR) Regimental HQ at Saliyapura recently hosted a colourful farewell parade for one of its proud sons, Major General Dhammi Hewage, the former Director General Infantry who were to retire shortly after an illustrious career of more than three decades.

The day’s ceremony commenced with the customary Guard Turnout presented to the day's protagonist. It followed offering of floral tributes to the architect of the regiment, late Major General Wijaya Wimalaratne's statue. A colourful farewell Guard of Honour parade that followed in the parade ground afterwards saluted the retiring Senior Officer. He took the farewell salute at the Home of Gajaba on the eve of his retirement from the special dais at the parade ground.

The day's event assumed greater significance and reached its climax as Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Colonel of the Regiment, GR and SLNG and Commander of the Army joined the customary farewell dinner night as the Guest of Honour.

Members of the Regimental Council, Centre Commandant, Deputy Centre Commandant, Senior Officers, Commanding Officers and all the staff officers of the Regimental Headquarters were present during this ceremony.
