Gajaba Regiment (GR) disable sportsmen who clinched the overall Championship in the recent Army Para Games - 2011 have bagged 65 Gold Medals, 60 Silver Medals and 50 Bronze Medals creating 27 new records in the recent tournament.
GR sportsmen excelled in wheelchair Basketball, Badminton and Athletics posing a challenge to the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) rivals who held the Championship continuously for ten years (2000 - 2010) but lost it this year to the GR.
GR disable sportsmen collected 473 points in the tournament, competed by Sri Lanka Armored Corps, Sri Lanka Artillery, Sri Lanka Signal Corps, Sri Lanka Engineer Corps, Sri Lanka Light Infantry, Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Gemunu Watch Regiment, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Commando Regiment, Special Forces, Mechanized Infantry Regiment and Sri Lanka National Guards sportsmen.
Those achievements were made possible due to support and guidance awarded by Major General Sumeda Perera, Colonel of the Gajaba Regiment, Brigadier Nissanka Ranawana, General Officer Commanding 58 Division, Lieutenant Colonel Kanishka Bandara, Major T Dasanayake, Warrant Officers Gunaratne and Dassanayake and Sports Ministry instructors.
