A soldier turned a good Samaritan of 15 (V) Gajaba Regiment of the 522 Brigade under command to 52 Division of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna was quick to return a wallet with cash and valuables, found from the roadside while the soldier was on a bicycle patrol in the general area of Velvettiturai, close to the Velvettiturai hospital on Wednesday (23).
The wallet containing Rs 24,955/= in cash, two ATM Bank cards, driving licence and insurance card, belonging to the civilian, Mr. Selvarajah Mathan of Ithithiyadi, Velvettiturai was thus found by the Staff Sergeant K.A.J Dissanayake of 15 (V) Gajaba Regiment who afterwards on the directions of Major General Samantha Wickramasena, General Officer Commanding, 52 Division and Commanding Officer of 15 (V) Gajaba Regiment took it to the nearest Police station and traced the information about the owner of the wallet. The Police after informing the owner made the soldier, Staff Sergeant K.A.J Dissanayake to hand over the wallet with all valuables intact to its owner in the presence of Policemen at Velvettiturai Police Station.
The wallet owner appreciated the soldier's exemplary act and thanked him for his considerateness, shown towards a civilian in the area.
