God Help the Brits

THE majority of Sri Lankans are heaving a sigh of relief now that the President has been finally able to bring Prabarakaran to his knees, due to the bravery and sacrifice of our soldiers under the astute guidance of the Defence Secretary and Service Chiefs. While showering these individuals with praise, which they richly deserve, we should not forget the services of people like the late Mr. Lakshman Kadiragamar, Mr.Dayan Jayatilleke, Prof.Rajeeva Wijesinghe, Mr. S.L. Gunasekera, Mr. Gomin Dayasiri and numerous others who were instrumental in exposing to the world Prabakaran and his organization for what they really are. They had the courage and conviction to take on the "arm chair" critics of the war effort. In doing so, they were also able to bring to light the nefarious activities that most of the INGOs and NGOs were engaged in. They exposed the "hollowness" of foreigners who are demanding the Government go for a ceasefire, when their Governments act differently in Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Mother Lanka is indeed proud to have such sons.

Mr. S.L. Gunasekara’s open letter to the British Foreign Secretary, Mr. David Miliband, published in your newspapers the other day was really a gem. If Mr. Miliband has any sense of shame, he should at least now keep his hands off the Sri Lankan issue. And it seems that he’s having ideas of being the next Prime Minister! If that is so, all I can say is "God help the Brits"!!
