Gemunu Watch New Colonel of the Regiment Begins Duties

The Director General General Staff of the Office of the Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Chaminda Lamahewa, assumed office as the 22nd Colonel of the Regiment of the Gemunu Watch on Friday (13 May), amidst religious observances and traditional military formalities at the Regimental Centre premises, Kuruwita.

Thereafter, amid religious rites and rituals, followed by ‘Seth Pirith’ chanting of the Maha Sangha, Major General Chaminda Lamahewa assumed his duties in the new office, placing his signature symbolically in an official document at the auspicious minute to signify the acceptance of his new office.

Next day (14), the proceedings commenced with the arrival of the new Colonel of the Regiment where he was received by the Center Commandant of the Regiment Brigadier Janaka Wimalarathne and honoured in a Guard Turnout at the main entrance. Subsequently, the colourful Guard of Honour was accorded at the Parade Ground premises of the Regimental Center in accordance with military traditions where the incoming Colonel of the Regiment reviewed the parade, together with the Center Commandant.

As the day’s final segment, the new Colonel of the Regiment joined refreshments with all ranks after commemorating the memory of fallen GW War Heroes at the camp monument and addressed all ranks at the Highlanders Paradise Hall.

The Centre Commandant, all Senior Officers, Officers, Staff Officers and other ranks at the Regimental Centre extended their best wishes to the new Colonel of the Regiment.
