Fifty Discarded Buses on Track Under “Uthuru Wasanthaya”

A CO-ORDINATING conference in connection with the government’s development programme, “Uthuru Wasanthaya”, (northern spring) was held recently at the Jaffna library auditorium.

The meeting, chaired by Senior Presidential Advisor and Parliamentarian Basil Rajapaksa was attended by senior administrative officials and administrators involved in projects.

Fifty Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses of three northern depots, which remained non-operational due to technical failures and shortage of spare parts, had been brought back on track after repairs, the meeting was told.  In addition, four new buses were handed over to the Jaffna SLTB depot by Mr. Basil Rajapaksa in the presence of Minister Douglas Devananda, Governor Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A Chandrasiri, former Jaffna Commander Major General Mendaka Samarasingha, incumbent Jaffna Commander Major General G.P.R. de Silva and a few other officials.

In the meantime, ninety-six farmers were granted permission to proceed with their cultivation in one hundred more acres of paddy-fields, situated inside the 512 Brigade High Security Zone beginning the forthcoming new season.

Meanwhile, 513 Brigade troops conducted another humanitarian project inside the Arunodya Government school premises in Karaveddi. All the buildings in the school premises were cleaned up with the support of the teachers, students and parents who took part in a Shramadana campaign.
