Extended Facilities of SLNG Hqrs Opened by Commander

Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) Regimental Headquarters at Weherawaththa, Kurunegala, added an extended new facility complex to it at Heraliyawaththa Saturday morning (12), turning a new leaf of life. The new facility complex consists of a new auditorium complex, a library and a computer laboratory was ceremonially opened by Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army at the invitation of the architect of the project Major General Piyal Wickramaratne, Colonel of the Regiment, SLNG.

Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake, Commander of the Army on arrival at the premises was saluted in a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honor presented by the SLNG troops before he was invited to unveil a symbolic plaque and warm the new auditorium complex, amid chanting of Seth Pirith by members of the Maha Sangha. Presentation of military honours also took place inside the new parade ground opened in the new facility complex.

Afterwards, the visiting Commander was invited to open the new computer laboratory unveiling a symbolic plaque. The new computer laboratory consists of 30 computers, bought through own funds.

A few minutes later, the automated an electronic library complex, adjacent to the computer laboratory was also inaugurated through online facility. At the same time, Major General Udaya Perera (Retd) who was also a former Colonel of the Regiment, SLNG, donated a stock of books to the new library.

In parallel with the main programme, the newly-built SLNG - Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) office was also warmed by Mrs Chandrika Senanayake, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit (ASVU), at the invitation of the Chairperson, SLNG-SVU, Mrs Ruwini Sujeewa Wickramaratne.

Before the troops’ address at the new-auditorium, a donation programme was conducted by the SLNG-SVU members.

On the same occasion, Mrs Wickramaratne together with other Officers and SVU members donated a stock of 17 Beds to the Kandy hospital and Chilaw hospital authorities.

At the same occasion, 34 wheel chairs that can be used by disabled War Heroes were also handed over to Mrs Chandrika Senanayake during the event.

Towards the end of the ceremony, hearing aids were also donated to three children of the SLNG War Hero families.

During the Commanders’ address that he appreciated the Operational and Sports achievements of the SLNG regiment the largest among the volunteer regiments.

Commander of the Army before his departure, planted a ‘Naa’ sapling in the compound as a token of memory of his visit to the SLNG Headquarters.

During the Commander’s stay there, he shared a couple of thoughts with Officers and Other Rankers and inquired into their well-being.

During the same programme, the visiting Commander also opened an Officers’ accommodation complex at Weherawaththa camp premises.

Towards the end of the ceremony, Major General Piyal Wickramaratne, extended his gratitude to the Commander and presented him with a memento and an album with day’s photo collection of the event.

The Commander left his signature in the SLNG Visitors’ Book.
