Exciting Military Police 'Colours Night 2023' Recognizes SLCMP Sports & Athletic Skills

The Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP) adding colour and further recognition to its provost dignity commended SLCMP sportsmen and sportswomen who performed exceptionally well in International, National, Defence Services and Inter Regiment sports and athletic events during the 'Military Police Colours Night-2023', held on Friday (01 Sep) evening at the Auditorium, Ministry of Mass Media, headed by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest for the occasion.

The dazzling event saw 37 SLCMP sportsmen and sportswomen symbolically awarded Colours from a selected group of 210 SLCMP personnel representing 22 sports events who had made outstanding achievements and brought admiration to the SLCMP, Sri Lanka Army and the country at large during the years 2012 -2023.

Major General W.A.S.S Wanasinghe RSP VSV USP ndu, Chief of Staff of the Army, together with Major General C.D Ranasinghe RWP RSP, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, Major General D.M.K.D.B Pussella RWP RSP, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Major General A.C.A de Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc, Provost Marshal of the Sri Lanka Army and Colonel Commandant of the SLCMP. extended a warm reception to the day's Chief Guest on his arrival at Auditorium, Ministry of Mass Media, Polhengoda.

Lighting of the traditional oil lamp and reciting of the Regimental song set the stage ready for the day’s agenda, followed by screening of a video documentary that narrated the Regiment's proud history, its expansion, progression of the Regiment, provost duties and a brief introduction about sportsmen and sportswomen to be awarded Colours.

Major General A.C.A de Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc delivered the welcome speech before the exciting awarding ceremony got to a start and briefed the gathering on the objective of the event.

The Army Chief, together with the Chief of Staff of the Army, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army, Commandant of Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force and Colonel Commandant, SLCMP afterwards on invitation joined award of Colours to the achievers where colourful aesthetic features and entertainment kept the spectators spellbound by members of the Army cultural troupe.

Towards the end of the awarding ceremony, the Commander of the Army addressed the gathering and congratulated the achievers while simultaneously encouraging them to pursue further in order to bring more glory to the organization. Leaving memories, Major General A.C.A de Zoysa USP Hdmc Lsc presented a special appreciative memento to Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage at the occasion.

The Army Chief in a symbolic gesture of stimulation and encouragement afterwards gifted a cash incentive of Rs 1 million towards further development of sports and athletic skills of SLCMP personnel. The SLCMP Colonel Commandant thankfully received the stimulant from the Commander of the Army.

The vote of thanks, delivered by Brigadier H.M.S.I Senarath, Centre Commandant of SLCMP culminated the day’s proceedings.

Major General G.R.R.P Jayawardena RWP RSP ndu, Quarter Master General of the Army and Colonel of the Regiment of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Senior Officers, Officers and a large crowd of Other Ranks witnessed the colourful event.
