Mr. Geoferey Van Orden, President of the European Parliament Friends of Sri Lanka Group, together with a few other officials with the intention of receiving an update on ground realities, visited Jaffna.
Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna after receiving the delegation presented them with a summary of post-conflict progress, hitherto made in social, economic, health and educational spheres.
During the meeting, the delegation showed extra interest in learning more about the ongoing demining work and the resettlement programmes in the peninsula.
Mr Orden during his stay in Jaffna met Jaffna Bishop Most Rev. Fr. Dr. Thomas Saundranayagam and a section of civilians, calling at the Jaffna Civil Affairs Public Relations Office before they visited a few other important places in the city.
Immediately after the visit to Jaffna, Mr. Orden and his retinue flew to Mullaithivu.
