Engineers Corps Wins Inter Regiment Hockey Championship

The closing ceremony of the Inter Regiment Hockey Tournament, organized by the Army Hockey Sports Committee took place at Kotahena St. Benedict’s College playground Thursday (22) evening.

The overall Championship Trophy went to the Sri Lanka Engineers and Sri Lanka Army Service Corps emerged the 1st runners-up. Military Intelligence Corps players ended as 2nd runners-up.

Isanka Jayasundara of the Engineer Services Regiment was selected as the best player in the tournament while K.A Sumanawardana of the Engineer Services Regiment became the best goal keeper.

The tournament held after a lapse of seven years was given the guidance by Major General Amal Karunasekara, Chairman, Army Hockey Committee and was supported by others in the committee.

Major General E.P de Z Abeysekara, Master General Ordnance (MGO) attended the final award ceremony as the Chief Guest. Several senior officers both serving or retired received mementos on the occasion in appreciation of their dedication for promotion of Hockey in the Army.          

Each team with seven hockey players vied in the finals.
