Eastern Troops with Sponsor Support Put up Two New Houses for Needy Families

The Security Force HQ-East (SFHQ-East) troops adding their share to the Army’s ongoing house construction for underprivileged families in respective areas erected two more new houses for two needy families in Kallady, Echalanpattu areas with sponsorship provided by Hayley’s PLC Ltd.

Both new houses, built by 24 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment troops of the 222 Brigade under the 22 Division of the SFHQ-East were vested in the beneficiaries on Monday (10) on account of the 73rd Army Anniversary and the Army Day.

The Commander, Security Forces-East, Major General Priyantha Jayawardena gave guidelines for the project and troops on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 22 Division, Major General Saliya Amunugama and also under the close supervision of the Commander (Overlooking), 222 Brigade, Colonel Nimal Chandrasekara using their technical skills and manpower built both houses with financial support, extended by Mrs Shramila Ragunadan, Director of Hayley’s PLC.

The Commanding Officer of 24 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Major M.K.D.J Rathnapriya took the initiative in finding the sponsor for both projects. During warming ceremonies, beneficiaries received the keys from the Chief Guest for the occasion, Major General Saliya Amunugama, General Officer Commanding of the 22 Division.

Beneficiaries included Mrs Jayanandan Thamarawelvi and Mrs Karthik Ushandani. A simple ceremony that followed rites and rituals afterwards invited Major General Saliya Amunugama, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division to deliver keys to both new houses.

During the warming ceremonies, representatives of the donor agency took part in the ceremonies of both houses. Troops were also generous enough to gift a stock of household equipment to the beneficiaries in addition to their construction expertise and technical skills.

Furthermore, Commander (Overlooking), 222 Brigade, Civil Affairs Officer of the 222 Brigade, Senior Officers of 22 Division, Officers and Other Ranks of the Battalion and several others who assisted to build the houses were present.
