DSS Students' Second Exhibition &;amp; Scholarship Award Programme-2011 Held


Students at Colombo Defence Services School (DSS) received further appreciation and recognition when they began their second ‘Viru Daru Sithuwam-2011’ (Exhibition of Handicrafts and Arts) at the school auditorium on Thursday (20), together with the receipt of scholarships and gifts in the ceremony that followed.

Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa as Chief Guest on the occasion, in the company of Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Inspector General of the Police Mr N.A Ilangakoon, Senior Navy and Air Force officers, was there to recognize and appreciate their skills and talents.

The ceremony saw 89 students excelled in the recent Grade 5 Scholarship Examination receive special gifts and merit certificates from the Chief Guest, Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya was also associated during the award of those scholarships and gifts.

The programme, organized jointly by the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) and the Defence Services School offered 61 scholarships on behalf of the RSA. The remainder, 28 was sponsored by the DSS. Both Secretary Defence and the Commander of the Army while giving away those scholarships and school bags as special gifts to those children inquired into their progress in studies.

Distinguished guests afterwards joined the students and viewed their exhibition of talents being displayed for the second consecutive time. The exhibition will continue until tomorrow (21).

DSS Director, DSS principal, members of the tutorial staff, parents and a gathering of invitees attended the ceremony.
