Defence Services College (DSC) at Colombo 2 on Wednesday (23) evening threw a warm welcome to the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva when he arrived there as the day’s Chief Guest for the annual prize-giving ceremony - 2019 at the invitation of Mrs Indika Priyadarshani, acting DSC Principal and the staff.
DSC students who excelled in the field of sports, education and other extra-curricular activities in the year 2019 in both college tournaments and outside competitions were rewarded during this colourful event of much significance to the school, graced by the Commander of the Army.
The day’s Chief Guest on arrival was welcomed by Mrs Indika Priyadarshani, Principal DSC and greeted to a salute presented by Girl Scouts and ushered him to the main venue, amid beats of college’s eastern and western bands.
The day’s event commenced with lighting of the traditional oil lamp, religious observances, singing of the college anthem and a two-minute silence to commemorate fallen War Heroes.
Later, Ranidu Weragala, DSC Head Prefect delivered the welcome speech. Cultural and dancing features staged by college students added glamour and colour to the spectacle.
After a little while, the day’s Chief Guest was invited on the stage for presentation of Colours to the most outstanding individual players of the year 2019 and the most shining performers of the year 2019. The Chief Guest also awarded a few more trophies and shields to several more students before his departure.
