Discussions & Awareness Projects on Organic Fertilizer Underway at Island-wide Centres

One more awareness session on the use of organic fertilizer as instructed by the Green Agriculture Operations Centre (GAOC) was organized at the Divisional Secretariat, Minipe at the invitation of Major General Kalpa Sanjeewa, General Officer Commanding, 11 Division on Thursday (24).

Divisional Secretary at Minipe, Agrarian officials, Colonol R.M.H Jayathissa Commanding Officers, 1 Sri Lanka Rifle Corps and around 100 farmers living in Minipe area participated in the discussion where modalities as regards the production, delivery and the use of organic manure were taken up for review.

Meanwhile, the Security Force Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ - Wanni) in order to educate officers and other ranks serving all battalions under the SFHQ-W had a lecture organized at the SFHQ-W on Friday (25).

The initiative, taken by Major General Champaka Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - Wanni was attended by Mr Kumudu Priyantha Gunawardana, Environmentalist and Director of Progressive Services Foundation who delivered the lecture on “Motivating the Society for a Healthy Life Style Through Green Agriculture Against Chemical Agriculture”.

Few senior officers, 74 officers and several other ranks under command to the SFHQ-Wanni participated in the arrangement.

In the meantime, one more awareness workshop on organic fertilizer got underway at the Oddusudan Grama Niladhari Division on Monday (21) with the participation of civilians living in Wasanthipuram and Nanthikadal.

14 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops under command to the 641 Brigade of the 64 Division of the Security Force HQ – Mullaittivu organized the workshop under the supervision of Brigadier Janak Jayawardena, 641 Brigade Commander.

Agrarian officials and agricultural experts and instructors during the project educated a total of 41 civilians and officers, attached to battalions if the area.

In another gesture, a similar workshop on green agriculture was held on 21 February at the Oddusudan Grama Niladhari Division, organized by the 642 Brigade, commanded by Colonel Madanaka Alwis, together with troops of the 23 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and civilians in the area.

Similarly, troops of the 17 Gajaba Regiment also organized a workshop on green agriculture in Thanduwan Government Tamil School together with civilians of the area. Regional agricultural experts delivered lectures and educated the general public.

In the meantime, one more awareness project on green agriculture production and its use were held at Thaddiyamalei community hall - Mullaittivu on 23 February

Civilians of the area, 13 Sri Lanka National Guard sector troops under the 643 Brigade of the 64 Division and the Security Forces Mullaittivu supported the project.
