Discussion on Colombo Beautification Held

A special conference of high-ranking tri-service, Police personnel and Government officials, chaired by Major General Sudantha Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Forces - West (SF-West) was held at the Ministry of Defence in order to explore possibilities of beautifying the Colombo city and its suburbs, following a suggestion, made by the Commander of the Army to that effect.

The conference noted the deteriorating practices of garbage collecting and heaping, improper maintenance of pavements and walk paths, garbage surrounding the Pettah Bus Stand, Fort Railway Station and other crowded public places.

It also focused on poor conditions of waterways and other water stagnating places, sewage systems and drains where contaminated water gets clogged.

The meeting also exploded possibilities of establishing a mechanism to expedite and rectify those shortcomings in the Capital as early as possible.

General Officer Commanding, 14 Division together with Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police in Western Province, Coordinating officer in Ministry of Defence, Local and Urban Council Officials and members of the private sectors attended the conference.
