Disable War Heroes Receive 200 New Three-wheelers

IN CONSISTENT with Government’s sustained policy of providing all possible welfare assistance to servicemen and police officers who have turned disable during the recent fight against terrorism, Ministry of Defence in liaison with Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) has launched a project to offer purchase of three-wheelers to War Heroes at easy concessionary price.

The scheme gave away 200 new three-wheelers to those differently-able War Heroes Thursday (4) morning at a simple ceremony, headed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Secretary to President Lalith Weerathunga, Secretary Defence Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, RSA Chairman Major General Palitha Fernando, Director General Media Center for National Security Lakshman Hulugalla and a host of officers, tri-service men and Police officers graced the occasion.

Two hundred members of the Armed Forces and the Police who had retired on medical category grounds after their battle-field injuries received keys for their new three-wheelers from the President Mahinda Rajapaksa during Thursday (4) morning ceremony at Army Headquarters ground this morning (4).

Brainchild behind the scheme,  Gotabhaya Rajapaksa   formally introduced the project to Ministry of Defence and Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA). Ministry has made Rs. 300,000/- available as a loan to those War Heroes for the purchase. The capital money is to be returned monthly in Rs. 8833.34/- instalments within three years.

It is firmly believed provision of these three-wheelers to those physically-handicapped War Heroes would serve a stimulus, and help them and members of their families enormously for transport of their beloved injured ones and other requirements.
