Directorate of EME Initiates ‘Artificer’ Course in Sri Lanka

The ‘Artificer’, the qualification that gives recognition to the military personnel who are experts in different trades as per the practices, implemented largely in Commonwealth countries was introduced to Sri Lanka Army Electrical Mechanical Engineering (EME) troops in a bid to save foreign exchange and offer the same course at local level in Sri Lanka.

On a directive given by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Director General Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Major General Ranjan Jayasekara initiated this project in Sri Lanka for the first time at the Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering in collaboration with the National Vocational Training Authority (NVTA).

The six - month long course, inaugurated on Tuesday (01) is followed by 20 Senior Non Commissioned – Officers, Warrant Officers, belonging to the Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (SLEME) Regiment. The Course expects to end on 01 May 2023.

This training would benefit them for overseas employment in countries, like South Korea after their retirement from the Army.

The opening ceremony of the course was held at Sri Lanka-Korea National Vocational Training Institute - Orugodawatta on 01 November 2022. Colonel Commandant of the SLEME and the Director Training have given their blessings to the project.
