Diaspora Reps Meet Kilinochchi Commander Before Re-opening 'Sencholai' Orphanage


Completely-renovated ‘Sencholai’ Children’s Care Centre at Kilinochchi was re-opened on Sunday (20) during a brief ceremony.

A representative Diaspora gathering from Canada, Australia, Germany, South Africa and the United Kingdom who sponsored the reconstruction of this Centre for orphaned children attended the reopening ceremony, together with Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters-Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), Mrs R.Kethishwaran, District Secretary for Kilinochchi and several others.

Sri Lanka Army troops and members of the Civil Defence Force tirelessly re-built this famous children’s home, following coordination, done by Mr K. Padmanadan, Coordinator, North-East Rehabilitation and Development Organization who coordinated the receipt of necessary funds from the Diaspora.

This orphanage, now well equipped and modernized houses about 50 children, affected due to the long-drawn war in Sri Lanka which ended in May 2009.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Diaspora who funded the entire renovation project visited the SFHQ-KLN at the invitation of Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, SFHQ-KLN on Saturday (19).

Commander, SFHQ-KLN after welcoming Diaspora representatives in accordance with Hindu traditions exchanged views and pleasantries during the get-together at the headquarters.

Major General Udaya Perera outlined the series of development roles, being pursued by the troops in Kilinochchi for promotion of economic, social, cultural and living standards of the civilians in the region.

Several senior officers were associated with the friendly meeting.
