Dehiwatta Troops Organize New Year Event

Giving pride of place to Buddhist, Catholic, Hindu and Islamic religious observances, the New Year festival, organized jointly by 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry and 24 Sri Lanka National Guard troops of the 22 Division in Muttur conducted a full day New Year event at Dehiwatta People's ground with the participation of all three major communities.

Traditional games, fun-making features and folk events dominated throughout the celebration, aimed at promoting ethnic harmony and reconciliation among people living in the area. At the invitation of Colonel E.A.P Ediriweera, 224 Brigade Commander, Major General Aruna Jayasekara, General Officer Commanding, 22 Division attended the event as the Chief Guest.

Ven Kalawane Kosalatissa Thero, Chief Incumbent at Dehiwatta Sri Wardanaramaya of the Amarapura Choolawansa Maha Nikaya, together with religious leaders of Catholic, Hindu and Islamic faiths had the event throughout the whole day.
