'Defence Services Games' Awarding Ceremony: Overall Championship Won by Army Sportsmen/Women

The 'Championship Awarding Segment' and the closing ceremony of the 12th edition of the 'Defence Services Games 22/23' got underway at Sugathadasa stadium on Friday (24 November), graced by Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, State Minister of Defence.

Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy and Commander of the Air Force attended the event as Guests of Honour.

After a brief welcome speech began the commencement of the Championship Awarding Segment, the highlight of the occasion.

The Chief Guest afterwards, together with the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, Commander of the Army, Commander of the Navy and Commander of the Air Force awarded trophies to the winning teams.

The Sri Lanka Army won the overall Championship in the 12th Defence Services Games for the year 2022-2023 securing 147 Gold, 144 Silver and 112 Bronze medals.

Sri Lanka Air Force and Sri Lanka Navy teams respectively clinched the runner up and second runner up slots.

The awarding ceremony also presented trophies to individual winners and team winners in 38 different categories, encompassing both team sports and individual sports.

A large gathering of tri serve All Ranks and invitees were witnesses to the mega event, coloured by tri service performing artistes.
