Cornerstone Laid for the Proposed GR Museum and Auditorium

The Gajaba Regiment (GR) marked the commencement of construction of the proposed Regimental Museum and Auditorium on Thursday (11 Apr) at the Regimental premises. Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of the Army graced the occasion as the chief guest.

The Army Chief was warmly welcomed by Major General W.H.K.S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, the Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment of GR.

Soon after, the Commander of the Army together with Major General W.H.K.S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, the Chief of Staff and Colonel of the Regiment of GR, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, the Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna, Major General S.B Amunugama RWP RSP ndu, the Commander, 1 Corps, Major General U.K.D.D.P Udugama RWP RSP USP ndc psc, the Commandant of Army War College and Brigadier W.M.A.B Wijekoon USP ndc, the Centre Commandant of GR laid cornerstones amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ by Members of Maha Sangha. Subsequently, Members of the Maha Sangha blessed the gathering.

Afterwards, Major J.R.M.S Jayawardena, the Commanding Officer of 2 Engineer Services Regiment (2 ESR) also briefed on the construction plan to the gathering. Troops of 2 ESR and GR Regiment will provide workforce assistance for the construction of the project.

The proposed building will comprise two stories. The ground floor will house an exhibition hall for the museum, while the first floor will be a multi-facility auditorium with a capacity of 667 seats, suitable for various types of functions.
