Converted Lunawa Hospital ICC, Now Functional

Troops of the 1 Corps of Engineer Services (1 CES) in consultation with health authorities refurbished one old building at Lunawa, Moratuwa Hospital to serve as an emergency ICC ward and handed it over to health authorities on Wednesday (16) by Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West.

The project was brought to completion in a short period of time on the instructions of Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West with the support of 1 Corps of Engineer Services troops.

General Shavendra Silva, Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO), Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the brainchild behind enhancing of the bed capacity and ICCs in line with the sudden increase of infected ones around the county, instructed Major General Vikum Liyanage, Commander, Security Forces - West to take prompt action for the conversion of this centre for an ICC within a few days.

Senior officers of the SFHQ -West, Brigadier Nilantha Fernando, Commander, 142 Brigade, Commanding Officer (1 CES) Lieutenant Colonel B.A.S.S Perera participated in the simple ceremony.
