12 (V) Corps of Engineer Services Regiment troops of the Army commenced the construction work at Polonnaruwa Royal College, Polonnaruwa on 15 July as per instructions, given by HE the President during his ‘Gama Samaga Pilisandarak’, conducted at Polonnaruwa several months ago.
Under the “Vistas of Prosperity and Splendour” (Sawubhagye Dekma) national policy framework of His Excellency the President gave directives to the Sri Lanka Army to develop infrastructure of schools and its sports network island-wide under the State Ministry of Rural and School Sports Infrastructure Improvement.
In line with the programme, the work began under the supervision of Brigadier Asanga Perera, Commander of the General Engineer Brigade on the guidelines, given by the Chief Field Engineer, Major General Nihal Amarasekara and the General Officer Commanding of the Engineer Division, Major General Chandana Wijayasundara.
Renovation of students’ hostel and sanitary complex are the main tasks of the project and funds for the projects have been allocated by the State Ministry of Rural and School Sports Infrastructure Improvement.
