The Commando Regimental Centre in Ganemulla on Sunday (18) organized a farewell ceremony to the retiring Major General Crishantha Gnanaratne, Colonel of the Regiment of Commando Regiment and Commander, 1 Corps on Sunday (Dec 18) under the guidance of Major General Shanaka Rathnayaka, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 53 infantry Division under the 1 Corps.
The chief guest was warmly welcomed by the GOC, 53 Infantry Division and saluted in a ceremonial Guard Turnout. A Guard of Honour that followed afterwards saluted him at the regimental parade square.
Later, he also paid floral tributes to valiant fallen Commandos at the Commando Regiment’s War Memorial and posed for a group photograph. The day’s Chief Guest addressed the Commandos as his final military address where he remembered the history of the Commandos and past experiences.
The next day, Major General Crishantha Gnanaratne received a street-line salute as he moved out from the compound.
The GOC, 53 Infantry Division, Brigadier Vijitha Hettiarachchi, Commander, Commando Brigade, Brigadier Kamal Dharmawardena, Centre Commandant of CR, Officers and Other Ranks were present at the events.
