The Commando Regimental (CR) HQ at Ganemulla offered a formal salute to the retiring Major General Anil Samarasiri, former General Officer Commanding, 65 Division of the Security Force HQ-Wanni on Sunday (10) in accordance with military formalities.
A ceremonial Guard Turnout at the entrance to the Regimental HQ greeted him at first before a colourful Guard of Honour salute at the cap compound saluted him. As part of the day's ceremony, he offered a floral tribute to the memory of fallen Commandos at the Commando Regiment War Heroes' Monument in a solemn moment.
A group photograph with all Officers added memories to the occasion before he was invited to plant a mango sapling in the compound.
The day's Chief Guest, Major General Anil Samarasiri afterwards addressed a cross section of all ranks of the Regiment, in which he shared some thoughts on significant memories, events and experiences of his military career of more than three decades and extended his best wishes to the forward-march of the Commando Regiment.
As the final segment of the felicitation, he was presented a token of appreciation by the CR Centre Commandant on behalf of the Colonel of the Regiment and all Commandos.
During the session, Major General Anil Samarasiri had an emotional chat with officers for assisting him for the accomplishments of his successful military career and subsequently signed the visitors’ book to leave memories of his last visit.
The retiring Major General was greeted by all Commandos in a street-line up to the main entrance where he presented his last salute to the Regiment. Brigade Commander, Commando Brigade, Brigadier Vijitha Hettiarachchi, Centre Commandant Commando Regiment, Brigadier Kamal Dharmawardana, several regimental council members and Commando Offrs who are serving within and outside the regiment at present participated in the ceremony.
