Commander’s Customary Address at DSCSC Touches Sri Lanka Army’s National Security Concerns

The Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC) at Sapugaskanda, the internationally-reputed academic seat of learning in Sri Lanka that trains tri service officers in command and staff techniques and develops the intellectual attributes to cope with their future appointments and challenges welcomed Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army on Friday (01) when he arrived there to deliver the customary address to both local and student officers from friendly foreign countries who are following the DSCSC Course No-17.

Major General B.K.G.M.L Rodrigo RSP psc IG, Commandant at DSCSC after a warm reception introduced the day’s guest speaker to the audience at the DSCSC auditorium where 148 student officers including 25 foreign student officers were seated awaiting the Army Chief’s arrival and his words of wisdom.

The Army Chief’s address, themed on ‘Sri Lanka Army’s Concerns on National Security and Transformation to Meet New Challenges’ focused on a comprehensive overview of existing issues of traditional and non-traditional threats. Further, he comprehensively briefed about the Army’s transformation process to face the new challenges.

At the end of the address, DSCSC student officers had the opportunity of interacting with the guest speaker by way of questions and clarifications during the question and answer session. At the end of the arrangement, the DSCSC Commandant on behalf of all student officers expressed his gratitude to Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage for his presence by awarding a memento. The Commander of the Army also reciprocated by presenting a memento.

Afterwards, the DSCSC Commandant invited the Commander of the Army to inaugurate the newly-established' Commander's Corner' in the DSCSC library, to which the Commander of the Army earlier gifted a stock of books, worth Rs. 2.5 million.

Next, the Commander of the Army had a close interaction with Student Officers and Directing Staff of the DSCSC during refreshments.

Prior to his departure, the Commander of the Army was invited to pen his thoughts and complimentary remarks in the DSCSC Visitors’ Book.

The DSCSC Course No-17 is composed of 148 student officers, including 25 foreign student officers from Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Senegal, United States of America and Zambia. Similarly, 72 Army, 26 Navy, 24 Air Force Officers and one Police Officer are following the same course which qualifies them to receive the ‘psc’ qualification.
